As Told by the Land is a three-month long thematic programme at Hayy Explorers for children aged 6–15 years old. Through educational programmes and artist interventions, it responds to the current Hayy Arts exhibitions by exploring themes of storytelling, movement, and shifting worlds.
Across the three months, children are invited to follow paths, collect traces, and construct new worlds from their immediate surroundings and everyday life.
The programme unfolds through three main chapters:
- Traces & Memory
- Routes of Exchange
- Constructed Worlds
Each sub-thematic is explored through hands-on workshops, artist collaborations, as well as reading sessions.
Learning Objectives & Outcomes:
- Understand ideas of movement within human and ecological communities due to natural and man-made factors
- Gain an understanding of urban change and look at sustainable ways of being in urban spaces
- Know different ways of preserving and archiving memories
- Create connections between old and new ways of thinking, mapping, and documenting
- Look into one’s own inner world and representing it artistically
- Gaining vocabulary and a visual bank of the local architectural and urban vernacular
- Artistic skills development, such as; motor/kinetic skills, problem solving, painting, perspective and technical drawings

Texture Harvest Zine by the Learning Team
This workshop encourages young explorers to document cherished memories through a more intentional lens. Using the skill of frottaging, participants are asked to trace and collect different textures around Hayy Jameel, and turn them into a zine as a form of preservation.
