Recess is back — and applications are open!
An alternative afterschool arts programme at Hayy Jameel for ambitious teens aged 14–17. Over 12 weekly sessions, participants dive into contemporary art through studio practice, research, field trips to local galleries and artist studios and mentorship from working creatives. Every student hand-binds their own portfolio throughout the programme, and the whole cohort comes together at the end for a real, student-led showcase.
Programme Aims:
Studio Practice — development of technical skills and artistic voice across a range of media and disciplines.
Critical Inquiry — development of research, analysis, and written and verbal communication skills through engagement with art history, theory, and contemporary discourse.
Collaborative Projects — structured group projects throughout the programme that are added to the final showcase outcome.
Programme Structure:
- Core Studios
- Research & Critical Thinking Sessions
- Material Experiments
- Collaborative Projects
- Field Visits
- Culmination: A student-led showcase
