The Art Jameel Collection is at the heart of Art Jameel’s programme, documenting and presenting important work by local, regional and international artists.
The Collection is guided by a thematic framework that in turn informs Jameel Arts Centre’s wider exhibition programming; while there is a particular focus on supporting artists from the Middle East, Asia and Africa, the scope is beyond geography, and responds primarily to threads of enquiry and networks of artistic and historical influence.
The Art Jameel Collection is comprised of artworks by over 100 artists and collectives. To date, the collection has been shown in exhibitions at Jameel Arts Centre and on loan to local, regional and international institutions.

A selection of artist films from the Art Jameel Collection will be on loan to MAAT (the Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology) in Lisbon, Portugal. The film programme will be part of a larger exhibition titled X is Not a Small Country – Unravelling the Post-Global Era, which explores the shift in the global dynamic to de-globalisation in response to the current pandemic.
The exhibition is a collaboration between MAAT and Art Jameel, and curated by Róisín Tapponi in response to the Tactile Cinema (2021) site-specific installation by Bricklab, which showcases films by Arab filmmakers and visual artists. The films on view are Behind the Sun by Monira Al Qadiri, Leaves Fall in All Seasons by Ahmed Mater and The Sky Oscillates Between Eternity and Its Immediate Consequences by Nadim Choufi, the winner of Art Jameel Commissions: Digital, 2020 programme.
