About Darat Al Hanan

Darat Al Hanan is an emerging collective creative studio founded by Roaa Mofreh and Shaima Saleh, whose philosophy and practice revolves around visualizing and synthesizing everyday surroundings, sensations, and objects, embodying the unnoticed ‘tenderness’ through photography, book/poster design, textiles and visual art.

Roaa Mofreh is an emerging multimedia artist, creative director, and clinical psychology student based in Jeddah.Through photography and varying mediums, she weaves into her work gestures and notes on marginalised objects and experiences regarding domestic life, family archives, memory lapses and what it means to be a women in the midst of it all. Her work “Portrait of a Balcony, Photobook/Installation”, an archive of Jeddah balconies was a part of a MISK exhibition in Summer 2024.

Shaima Saleh is a multimedia artist based in Jeddah, specializing in embroidery and silk screen printing, which she studied at Jeddah University. Her practice is rooted in uncovering the poetic significance of everyday objects, crafting collages from textiles, photographs, and found materials, often integrated with text. Through her work, Saleh seeks to counter the swift passage of time, creating intentional rituals that encourage a more thoughtful approach to observation, perception, and care. Her work has been exhibited in Cairo, Jeddah, and Riyadh.
