Hoist your sails this summer at Hayy Explorers and journey into real and imaginary worlds of adventurers, pirates, inventors, and those who wanted to discover the seas, especially the Red Sea! Our discovery theme ‘Under Mountains, Over Seas’ is inspired by Hayy Arts’ exhibitions ‘Salt-Kissed: Of Vessels That Have Sailed The Red Sea’ and ‘Ahaad Alamoudi: Moving Mountains’.
Throughout the run of this thematic, we will explore ideas of map making, fantastical tales of Sindbad, Soliman and his fleets, ships of wood and metal, and those that are still shipwrecked in the Red Sea. As we dive into this journey we will also look at old and new technology, gears, mechanisms and automata.
As part of ‘Under Mountains, Over Seas’, each month we explore a new chapter, and chart into the unknown through making activities, stories, and games.
- Chapter I: Tales of the Red Sea (June & July)
- Chapter II: Cartographers and Geographers (August)
- Chapter III: The Shape of Ideas: Inventions (September)
- Chapter IV: Automata: Machines and Mechanisms (October)
