Open Call: Kef Hayyak? – Second Edition 

Hayy Cinema is defined by its unique approach of curated and research-oriented filmic content that intends to nurture the audience in an atmosphere of curiosity and inclusivity, and this is your chance to be a part of it!

While Hayy Jameel is your community hub where you’ll be able to wander and explore, we are curious to know more about your own neighborhood. Whether it’s the coffee shop around the corner that you visit at the end of the day or the amazing view from an unknown spot… surprise us with hidden gems, people, and sites that make Jeddah so unique. Cinema is about perspective and angles, and we want you to choose the way you’d like to show us Kef Hayyak.

Before making your film – apply here with your proposed idea and neighborhood of your choice.

The selected applicants will have the opportunity to be mentored on documentary filmmaking at Hayy Cinema by industry professionals and later screen their films to a professional jury committee from the Saudi film industry. The winning film will be programmed as part of Red Sea International Film Festival Documentary Days at Hayy Cinema in May of 2025.

Requirements to apply

• Beginner filmmakers 
• New applicants only (not opened to previous participants)
• Ages 15+ 
• Jeddah Residents
• Preferably Arabic speakers
• Parental approval required
• All filming should preferably be done on a phone, the use of professional cameras is prohibited
• By signing up you agree to attend the orientation, check-in, feedback, and jury sessions held at Hayy Cinema
• By signing up you agree to being photographed and having your photographs published at Hayy Jameel’s discretion
• By signing up you give Hayy Cinema rights to the film produced and acknowledge that the film could possibly be screened there

Transportation

Art Jameel will organize shuttles or mini buses to and from Hayy Jameel for selected candidates from remote neighborhoods if necessary.
