The two iconic siblings, Asmahan and Farid Al Atrash, have left an indelible mark on the music and film industry – both possessed exceptionally strong and captivating voices. Farid Al Atrash was not only a remarkable musician but a talented singer and composer, leaving behind remarkable melodies.

Asmahan, celebrated for her beauty and free spirit, became an iconic figure for women. Farid Al Atrash, on the other hand, garnered adoration from all segments of society, royalty and masses alike. Their films continue to be broadcasted on major TV networks. Asmahan and Farid embarked on their careers by relocating from their native country, Syria to Cairo.

This pop-up display titled ‘Nawartuna’ is a testament to their enduring influence on the collective generational memory across the Arab world. Derived from the Arabic word “nawarta” which means “to illuminate” or “to enlighten”, ‘Nawartuna’ sheds light on Farid Al Atrash’s significant involvement in the world of cinema through archival material, encompassing original posters, rare images shared in public for the first time and personal belongings.

‘Nawartuna’ is a collaboration between Art Jameel and The Red Sea International Film Festival, with thanks to Al Atrash family.
