Introducing Hayy Markets: Year of the Camel!

In collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, this two-day public programme celebrates the Year of the Camel and its cultural significance, connection and legacy in Saudi tradition and identity.

Join us for a fun-filled weekend of Hayy Markets: Year of the Camel and connect with local artisans, producers, entrepreneurs and vendors celebrating the cultural significance of camels and their connection and legacy to Saudi tradition, identity and social values. Showcasing a range of camel-themed or inspired handcrafts, products, textiles and design pieces, the market allows you to be immersed in local innovation and heritage, Featuring our local collaborators Nafisa Shams and the Social Development Bank as well as  Hayy resident Aysh Academy. Other parts of the market include a curated film programme, an interactive mural activation, practical workshops and engaging children’s activities.

Day One
Friday, November 22, 2024

Hayy Market | Fenaa Hayy

An open market with more than 20 artisans, producers and entrepreneurs showcasing an array of camel themed products, handcrafts and homeware items from across the region, as well as a traditional display by local collaborator Nafisa Shams and baked goods by Aysh Academy. Enjoy local craftsmanship, heritage and innovation highlighting the history, value and benefits of camels across time, history and cultures.

Colouring mural | Salat Hayy

A mural colouring experience for the community to paint camel-inspired artworks in a creative and participatory way, led by Hayy Studios artist collective RexChouk & Azee.

WATCH

Hadi Alees | Hayy Cinema, Cinema 2

First screening at 5pm and second screening at 5:30pm free, first come first served 

A short story, directed by Abdullah Saharti, shedding light on the history and life of camels, their relationship with the Arabian landscape, people and prospects on the economy through a breathtaking cinematic display. 

PLAY & EXPLORE
Adventures of Mazyouna  | Hayy Explorers

5 – 8pm

Join activities at Hayy Explorers with your young ones and get to know Mazyouna, the camel girl, and her adventures in the desert. Along with informational activity booklets, engage in giant puzzle-making, clay works, flower crowns, and painting colourscapes that reflect the beauty and heritage of these marvellous desert ships.

MAKE
Decoupage Art | Project Space

7 – 9pm

A workshop for art enthusiasts interested in learning about decoupage art and creating a camel design using techniques and toolkit from Hayy Studios artist Raices by Lizza AlHejin.

Gilding on Kufi Calligraphy | Project Space

7 – 9pm

A workshop all about gold leafing and calligraphy, creating a personalised artwork inspired by camel motifs and verses from the holy Quran by Hayy Studios artists Yasmine Maktabi and Marwa Turkestani of Islamic Art Lab.
