A series of training sessions on the techniques and processes of silkscreen printing and fine art printmaking.

Learning outcomes:

• Understanding the history, fundamental principles, and creative applications of silkscreen printing.
• Identifying and correctly using the essential tools, materials, and equipment required for the silkscreen printing process.
• Preparing artwork for printing by creating high-contrast designs suitable for stencil production.
• Preparing a silkscreen by coating it with photo emulsion, exposing it, and developing the image through the exposure process.
• Producing multi-layer silkscreen prints with accurate registration and consistent ink application.
• Applying safe studio practices, including the proper use of equipment and the cleaning and maintenance of screens and squeegees.
• Exploring color mixing, layered printing techniques, and visual composition to create original printed artworks.
• Preparing digital files for print production using design software such as Adobe Illustrator or Adobe Photoshop, ready for film output and screen exposure.
• Evaluating print quality, identifying common printing issues, and applying troubleshooting techniques to improve print results.
• Producing a final edition of silkscreen prints that demonstrates technical proficiency and creative expression.

Final outcome:

Producing a series of original artworks using the silkscreen (screen printing) technique, demonstrating mastery of the entire process, from artwork preparation and screen development to the production of high-quality final prints.

Participants’ completed works may also be presented in a final exhibition at Hayy Makers Space at the conclusion of the workshop series.

Ziad Yousef HajAli

Ziad Yousef HajAli is a Palestinian visual artist, printmaker, art conservator, and cultural practitioner. Originally from the displaced city of Al-Ramla, Palestine, he lives and works between Ramallah and Jeddah. He has been actively engaged in the Palestinian and regional art scenes for more than two decades. Ziad’s multidisciplinary practice spans visual arts, printmaking, and cultural production. He specializes in silkscreen printing (screen printing), using the medium to explore themes of memory, identity, and the socio-political landscape. His bold graphic works reflect ideas of resistance, cultural heritage, and the intersections between personal experience and collective memory.

Alongside his artistic practice, Ziad has an extensive background in art restoration and conservation. He received specialized training in Florence, Italy, where he gained significant expertise in the conservation of classical artworks. He is recognized as the first Palestinian conservator specializing in oil paintings, a pioneering achievement that reflects his commitment to preserving and safeguarding artistic heritage. His conservation experience has enriched his artistic practice, combining technical precision with conceptual depth. Over the years, Ziad has collaborated with numerous Palestinian and international artists, contributing to the production of exhibitions and the development of public art projects from both technical and curatorial perspectives. He has participated in a wide range of local and regional cultural initiatives and continues to play an active role in fostering artistic dialogue and community-based cultural programming.

Ziad currently serves as the Exhibitions Manager at Hayy Jameel in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, where he leads the planning and delivery of innovative exhibitions. He works closely with artists, curators, and cultural institutions to create meaningful, conceptually driven, and socially engaging artistic experiences.
