This workshop introduces participants to the process of building a customized wooden stretched canvas from scratch. Participants will learn how to construct the frame, stretch the canvas, and apply gesso to create a finished surface ready for painting.

Learning Outcome:

  • Measure, cut, and assemble wooden stretcher bars to construct a sturdy, properly squared frame in a chosen size.
  • Apply basic joinery techniques to reinforce frame stability and durability.
  • Prepare canvas cloth by cutting it to the correct size with adequate margin for stretching and folding.
  • Demonstrate proper canvas stretching techniques, including the use of canvas pliers, to achieve even tension across the surface.
  • Apply gesso or primer to prepare the finished canvas surface for painting.

Final Outcome:

Wooden stretched canvas, ready for painting.
