Five years after its original release, Shams Al-Ma’arif (2020) by the locally beloved filmmaking duo Godus Bros returns to the big screen! This time, in a never-before-seen Director’s Cut exclusively at Hayy Cinema with the filmmakers presence in this retrospective weekend with films, masterclasses, giveaways, and exclusive chances to meet the cast and crew!

The Godus Bros, the filmmaking duo of brothers Sohayb and Faris Godus, began as a YouTube channel that quickly gained popularity among Saudi youth in 2010 and onwards. From short films to creative content, they paved the way for a new generation of Saudi storytellers, offering a bold and authentic local voice. With feature films like Shams Al-Ma’arif (2020) and Ahlam Al-Asr (2024), they cemented their place in the Saudi filmmaking scene. The Book of Sun – Shams Al Ma’arif (2020): During 2010, the year of Saudi Youtube spring movement, Husam, a highschool senior finds himself lured into video production, along with his bestfriends, Maan and Ibrahim, who he used to bully, and lastly Orabi, the teacher with a passion for filmmaking. In the midst of their final high school year, a wild adventure ensues as they decide on producing a horror feature film, without any financing, risking their entire future.

It is very much engraved in many schools of thought when it comes to art that there is no right and wrong; which might guarantee creative freedom for the masters of the craft; but might also make it too vague for beginners trying to find a solid ground for their first step. This 2-day engaging masterclass by Tape Studio at Hayy Cinema by acclaimed director Faris Godus is designed for film lovers and aspiring creators beginning to dive into the world of filmmaking. Participants will be guided over the two days through the essential do’s and don’ts of the cinematic arts.

The masterclass is from August 15 to August 16, from 5:00-7:00pm.

About the Instructor

Faris Godus

An actor, writer and producer, began his career in the field of visual content production as an actor and content manager and was able to demonstrate his abilities in production supervision and develop it. After establishing his own organization, he produced his first feature, Shams AlMa’arif (2020), which formed his methodology of work and enhanced his ability to know about the aspects of artistic and financial production.

Sohayb Godus

A director and writer. His style has a lot of subjectivity and devotion based on his original passion for cinema. With his high visual abilities, he’s always capturing the cinematic scene with a fun, interesting and artistic twist, with modern creative patterns. After establishing his organization with his brother he stood out in the Saudi cinema field and showed his abilities in directing so his name is known to be one of the first Saudi directors.
