Dewaniya is a monthly gathering centred on connection, community and care at Hayy Jameel. It brings together creatives from different disciplines, backgrounds and experiences to learn-share-create with, through and from one another across artforms, research, practices and local initiatives.

Over the years, we have built a community over shared space, tradition and purpose. This month, we invite creatives to express their interest in a special edition with writer Khaled Alqahtani as he walks us through the editorial process of Ward Magazine from concept to publication. Together, we’ll collectively curate and create a mini-issue inspired by the moon, a celestial body long regarded as both a compass and ancient friend.

No experience required. All creative practices are welcome. Express your interest by filling out the form – deadline is 28 March 2026.

Limited capacity – only selected participants will receive an email confirmation with further details by 1 April 2026.

ABOUT

Ward was founded in 2017 as an art e-magazine with a particular focus on artists from Tabuk. It was born out of frustration with how cultural resources were primarily allocated: art spaces in Saudi Arabia were largely concentrated in major cities, while Arabic-language content on contemporary art remained limited. Ward sought to address this gap by creating a platform that highlights artistic practices emerging from towns and cities that are often overlooked.

Rooted in play and experimentation, Ward gradually expanded through a range of free and accessible initiatives, including open calls for published issues, as well as workshops, exhibitions, and lectures.

Khaled Alqahtani is a storyteller and biologist from Tabuk, Saudi Arabia. Khaled writes and dreams about desert ecosystems, the Saudi art scene, and Arab art history as the editor-in-chief of both Ward Magazine and Thmanyah’s أها! newsletter. Based in Jeddah, he currently works as a Library Assistant at the Jameel Library in Hayy Jameel.
