Library Assistant 

Art Jameel is looking for a Library Assistant to support in launching the library as well as the daily operation, resource acquisitions, and programming of the upcoming Jameel Library space, a dedicated multi-media library specialising in visual arts, cinema, image-making, and related interdisciplinary fields. 

The position is best suited to a detail oriented candidate who is passionate about research, publication, audio-visual resources, multi-media archives, and has strong organisation and communication skills, and is open to learning.

Accountability 

The Library Assistant reports to the Library Coordinator.

Responsibilities and Duties

General

• Supports the learning coordinator in curating, sourcing, and acquiring books and multimedia resources for the library 
• Contributes to research and building acquisition lists in accordance to the set acquisition strategy
• Supports in research around Hayy Jameel’s exhibitions and cinema programmes to source relevant publications, resources and research material to be acquired
• Contributes to the development and execution of research and library programmes and supports in their delivery (such as reading groups and seminars)
• Acts as a focal point for the day-to-day operations of the library, and keeps track of set-up, clean-up, and cataloguing 
• Works with Jameel Library’s Management System
• Supports with administrative processing of POs, Contractors, Loan Agreements etc.
• Engages with public, assisting visitors 
• Other relevant duties as management deems fit

Qualifications and Experience

• An undergraduate or graduate degree in Library Studies, Literature, Film Studies, or relevant degrees in the arts & humanities. 
• Passion for interdisciplinary arts particularly visual and contemporary arts and cinematic arts.
• Detail oriented and meticulously organised.  
• Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills
• Excellent time management, communication (verbal and written), and organisation skills
• Saudi Nationals or Saudi residency holders
• English and Arabic fluency
• Drivers license is a plus

Conditions of Work

• This is a full-time position based in Jeddah, KSA , with occasional travel to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and elsewhere
• All members of the Art Jameel team take shifts on the Welcome Desk (at least 1 day every 2-3 weeks)
• Occasional weekend and evening work according to workload is also required
