Graphic Designer

Job Description

 

The Graphic Designer works with various Art Jameel teams to support the design needs of the organisation. This Graphic Designer will contribute  to managing Art Jameel’s archive of visual collateral, producing new graphic content with a focus on Hayy Jameel and its programmes. Core responsibilities include creating sub-identities and type treatments for Hayy Jameel’s new spaces such as Hayy Cinema and Hayy Explorer’s (a dedicated space for children activities), developing graphic identities for special exhibitions and programmes that take place at Hayy Arts, developing digital and printed material for catalogues, websites, e-newsletters, invitations, advertising  campaigns, merchandise and more — sometimes designed from scratch, other times following the guidance of  experienced external designers and working with the Art Jameel’s in-house designer, based in Dubai. This new role will be part of the founding team of Art Jameel’s design working group, which is responsible for devising Art Jameel’s design etho and setting Art Jameel’s design and production standards in line with Art Jameel’s sustainability goals. This role will look at ways of foregrounding arabic in the development of graphics. The position suits a collaborative, bilingual, team player with an interest in the arts and an excellent ability to multitask and work on multiple projects simultaneously. 

 

Responsibilities and duties

  • Supporting the Art Jameel team in project design and implementation with a focus on Hayy Jameel in Jeddah
  • Creating original graphic content that appeals to a wide variety of audiences 
  • Working with and following the guidance of in-house and external designers on specific campaigns and publications 
  • Working with the exhibitions and programmes team on conceptualising and developing design identities for special exhibitions and programmes 
  • Adapting and extrapolating designed outputs for traveling exhibitions and programmes
  • Producing wayfinding posters and events related promotional material based on requirements of the events and visitor experience teams, as needed
  • Developing the design of Hayy Jameel’s digital channels, primarily the Hayy Jameel website and e-newsletter
  • Assisting in the production of video, print, and web materials as needed 
  • Carrying out ideas from concept to delivery in a meticulous manner
  • Working closely with freelance graphic designers and suppliers such as printers to ensure high quality deliverables
  • Proofing thoroughly prior to printing or publishing  
  • Sourcing printing suppliers and supervising printing and production of designed material and content
  • Contributing to communications and marketing campaign strategies and ideas 
  • Taking a creative and intuitive approach to brand aesthetics  
  • Supporting the social media managers in preparing online campaigns and graphics 


Qualifications and past experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in art/media/design/multimedia/visual communication or comparable  portfolio and experience 
  • Well versed in Adobe Suite 
  • Expertise in designing websites, digital creative and interactive media 
  • Ability to quickly and effectively communicate concepts through sketches, storyboards and  wireframes 
  • Experience managing several projects simultaneously
  • Able to work calmly and quickly to deadline, with great attention to detail
  • A proven team player, able to embrace and thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative work  environment 
  • Desirable: Experience of working in a creative environment 
  • Expected: Fluency in English and Arabic (both reading and writing)

Conditions of Work

  • This is a full-time position based in Jeddah, KSA 
  • All members of the Art Jameel team take a shift on the Welcome Desk (1 day every 2-3  weeks) 
  • Occasional weekend and evening work according to events and programmes is as required
