Development Manager

Art Jameel is seeking a Development Manager to join the team at Hayy Jameel, Jeddah. This role focuses on building support for Art Jameel’s programmes in Saudi Arabia by diversifying funding streams including through partnerships, venue hire, collaborative and third-party events, consultancy projects and sponsorship. The role would suit an outgoing, proactive, bilingual professional with client liaison experience and a passion for building networks and sustainable futures for the arts in Saudi. Liaising closely with the Marketing, Events and Community Management teams, this diverse, growing role ranges from project management and partnership building, through to pitching, business and strategic planning.

 

Role

The Development Manager has responsibility for managing all aspects of third party funding generation at Hayy Jameel, including Venue Hire and related partnerships; sponsorships; collaborative events and third-party projects; and relationships with partners. The role also contributes to managing consultancy projects and to business and strategy planning and supports on the development of new projects and enterprises within Hayy Jameel.

Accountability

The Development Manager reports to the Director of Art Jameel with support from the Development Consultant, with a dotted line to the Head of Operations at Hayy Jameel. The role includes overseeing/guiding the Events Assistant and liaising closely with Art Jameel team members across Events, Community Management, Public Programmes, Marketing and more.

Job Description

  • Act as the main point of contact for current and potential partners and collaborators, including potential sponsors, venue hire clients, pop-ups and short-term rentals
  • Support the Director and Senior Development team leads in building a long-term strategy for sustainable, diversified funding support for Art Jameel in Saudi
  • Manage all Venue Hire relationships, bookings and events day-to-day, assisted by the Events Assistant; maintain tracking documents; update and maintain Venue Hire brochures, price segmentations and related documents
  • Respond in a timely manner to all Venue Hire requests; provide tailored venue options and detailed information about facilities, capacity, and services
  • Maintain and oversee the calendar for Venue Hire spaces at Hayy Jameel (including Fenaa, Project Space, Saalat Hayy, among others); update team and manage internal communications and team-wide relationships
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, venues, and suppliers to foster repeat business and referrals
  • Develop pitches, update presentations (using Powerpoint, Google slides and so on)
  • Network on behalf of Art Jameel, attend relevant local and Kingdom-wide events and build potential new relationships and partnerships for Art Jameel (working closely with the Senior Manager, Marketing)
  • Contribute to and support senior team leads in developing business and strategy plans for new spaces, projects and enterprises at Hayy Jameel
  • Collaborate with Events, Programming, MarComms, Operations, Finance and other internal departments to support in the delivery of festivals and events – both internally-produced and third-party/collaborative – at Hayy Jameel, and the development of related sponsorships and in-kind support for programmes and events
  • Maintain and fulfil – and contribute to updating as needed — SOPs related to Development, Venue Hire and related enterprises
  • Support the Enterprises Manager in developing, managing and delivering consultancy projects for third parties
  • Attend to any other duties and support colleagues, as deemed necessary by the Director, senior Development leads and Head of Operations

Personal Specification

Essential

  • Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality, Business, Marketing, Arts or a related field
  • Experience in client liaison, venue hire, event planning/management and/or sales and leasing
  • Ability to communicate and negotiate effectively and diplomatically with a diverse set of team members, assistants and stakeholders
  • Excellent organisational, planning and administration skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and independently, remaining calm under pressure; capacity to foreground positive thinking, work ethic and a collective approach to problem-solving
  • Experience of managing projects and budgets within an organisational context
  • Flexible with working hours, including weekends and evenings as needed

Desirable

  • Experience of working in the Gulf, particularly KSA, and an understanding of how to navigate the creative industries, corporate and government cultures and structures
  • Ability to speak/write Arabic as well as English
  • Experience in working in similar venues and sectors

Conditions of Work

Full time permanent position, based at Hayy Jameel, Jeddah

Hours of work: 10am – 6pm, Sunday-Thursday plus weekends and evenings as events demand (with time in lieu)

Probation period: 6 months
