Design and Production Assistant

Job Description

Based at Hayy Jameel in Jeddah, the Design and Production Assistant will support the Design and Production Manager in the delivery of exhibitions, installations, commissions, and spatial design projects across Art Jameel’s multidisciplinary spaces. This role requires technical proficiency in spatial design software, strong organisational capabilities, and a collaborative mindset.

The role includes responsibilities ranging from technical drawing and 3D modelling to project administration and on-site coordination. It is particularly well-suited to early-career professionals with a background in architecture, interior, or product design who are passionate about cultural production and exhibition-making.

The Design and Production Assistant will work closely with colleagues across the organisation, including teams from Exhibitions, Learning, Operations, and Communications, as well as with external fabricators, artists, and contractors. Occasional evening or weekend work may be required during installations or project deadlines.

Responsibilities and Duties

Technical Support

● Prepare architectural drawings, technical specifications, and layout plans using AutoCAD, Rhino, and SketchUp.
● Assist in developing presentation visuals and exhibition documentation using Adobe Creative Suite and PowerPoint.
● Support in generating 3D models, fabrication references, and basic renders for internal and external review.

Project Coordination

● Track production schedules, contractor timelines, and deliverables.
● Assist in maintaining documentation such as production trackers, work schedules, and site reports.
● Liaise with external suppliers and coordinate material research and procurement when needed.

Administrative Support

● Assist in maintaining archives of drawings, contracts, and approvals.
● Support in booking, coordination, and documentation for production-related travel or logistics.

On-site and Installation

● Participate in install and deinstall phases across exhibitions and projects, ensuring proper documentation and execution.
● Support artists, curators, and contractors on site during fit-out and installation phases.
● Assist in reviewing and coordinating on-site works such as furniture assembly, layout adjustments, and display integration.

Communication and Liaison

● Liaise with contractors and vendors to support project coordination, procurement, and permit-related documentation.
● Support internal communication between departments and assist in meeting preparations and follow-ups.

Qualifications and Experience

● Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Interior Design, Product Design, or a related design discipline.
● 1–3 years of relevant professional experience.
● Proficiency in AutoCAD, Rhino, and SketchUp; familiarity with rendering software is a plus.
● Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint; Adobe Suite proficiency is desirable.
● Fluent in Arabic and English (written and spoken).
● Demonstrated organisational and time-management skills with attention to detail.
● Experience working in exhibitions, architecture firms, design consultancies, or production environments is preferred.
