Head of Audiences, Art Jameel

The role includes managing cross-country teams; directly managing, initiating and executing audience development strategies in Saudi; overseeing and advising the development of communications and outreach in Dubai; and contributing to the strategic direction of Hayy Jameel, working closely with the Deputy Directors and Art Jameel Senior Leadership Team in Dubai, Jeddah and beyond. The Head of Audiences reports regularly to the (Jeddah-based) Deputy Director and (international) Director, and on occasion to the board, on all matters related to Art Jameel’s Audiences department and outreach goals.

Responsibilities and duties 

  • Oversee, set, track and analyse the direction, goals, KPIs for the Audiences teams in Saudi and the UAE (including outreach, communications and visitor experience)
  • Oversee a team of c. 10 personnel on a day-to-day basis; collaborate with other Heads of Department and Deputy Directors to set the tone for the management of the team as a whole, encouraging cross-department collaboration and adherence to and promotion of Art Jameel values
  • Combine direction and analysis for the two centres (and digital/global initiatives), presenting quarterly reports to the Director, Deputies and board that track global awareness, local footfall, audience engagement, loyalty and impact
  • Represent Art Jameel and Hayy Jameel locally and on occasion, internationally – from building community networks to engaging with industry forums
  • Co-oversee (with the Strategy, Outreach and Communications Managers) the Art Jameel brands, guidelines, development
  • Devise and develop strategies to increase, benchmark and analyse daily footfall with a particular focus on destination marketing for the two Art Jameel centres, prioritising at first Hayy Jameel, Jeddah (working with the Director, Deputy Directors, Senior Managers in Strategy, Outreach and Communications and Head of Operations)
  • Direct management and implementation of audience-development and analysis initiatives for Hayy Jameel, Jeddah (working with the Dubai-based Strategy and Outreach Manager to set global strategies), including all aspects of the complex, from Art Jameel-run programmes, venue hire, festivals, events, to those of the Residents and third-party collaborators
  • Oversight of the marketing, outreach and communications strategies for Jameel Arts Centre, Dubai; working with local senior team to deliver on increasing global awareness and local (and tourist) footfall – including exhibitions, commissions, learning and talent development programmes, festivals, programmes, the AJ Shop and restaurant Teible
  • Oversee and collaborate with the Senior Manager, Communications, to devise strategies to increase media engagement in Art Jameel’s work globally and its two sites locally, and to integrate communications strategies with those of marketing, advertising, visitor experience
  • Oversee Visitor Experience globally – with direct oversight and management at Hayy Jameel, and via the Outreach Manager in Dubai — aiming to provide visitors to the centres with a smooth, consistent and dynamic experience, build loyalty and repeat visitors
  • Oversee the messaging, aesthetics, audience development initiatives at the various visitor experience and ticketing touch-points at Hayy Jameel, including the welcome desks, Hayy Cinema and Hayy Explorers ticketing booths, working with the Visitor Experience Manager and Head of Operations; oversee and advise on the same for Jameel Arts Centre, working with the local Strategy and Outreach Manager
  • Devise and implement experiences, surveys and membership schemes that increase loyalty and repeat visits
  • Co-manage and initiate new advertising strategies and community and media partnerships
  • Devise and implement strategies to promote and engage communities in new programmes and elements within the complexes—including, for example, the makerspace at Hayy Jameel
  • Devise and draw together marketing and communications plans for internal and third-party events, sponsors and consultancy projects
  • As a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, deputise for the Deputy Director and Director on occasion, representing Art Jameel in a leadership position as required
  • Support the Deputy Director, Director and finance teams in building the annual budget for the Audiences department; oversee and co-manage the budget with the Senior Managers and Managers
  • Support the Deputy Director and Director — and play a senior leadership role in — creating a positive, warm, inspirational and vibrant community environment among both the Art Jameel team and our partners, suppliers, tenants and visitors
  • Play an integral role in setting Art Jameel’s culture in KSA and in maintaining a motivated, informed and happy team; work with the Head of People to devise Learning & Development pathways for the Audiences team globally
  • Work with the Deputy Directors, Head of Operations, Finance Director and senior team to encourage and faciliate cross-team and cross-country practices and systems
